What is RaceStreaming?

RaceStreaming provides a small 270-gram video and mobile hardware encoder (StreamKit), which broadcasts live video (1080p up to 60 fps) via the built-in 4G modem to your RaceStreaming account at https://app.racestreaming.com. You can follow and manage live streams from any device (mobile, tablet, or laptop) or forward the stream to external platforms like YouTube, Facebook Live, Instagram, and Twitch. Furthermore, you can push live video streams to professional broadcasters via SRT or RTMP.

What is the expected delivery time of the RaceStreaming StreamKit?

What is the price?

The RaceStreaming StreamKit, including a first-year subscription and mobile data plan, is €2.250. Visit the store for more information. The annual renewal subscription for the following years including mobile data plan is €1.104 (€92 per month).

What do I need to start streaming from my race car with racestreaming.com?

You will need the following to get started with the racestreaming.com platform.

  1. RaceStreaming.com StreamKit
  2. A camera, such as
    • Racelogic VBOX HD2
    • AIM Smartycam 3 or 4
    • DJI Osmo Action 5 (or newer)
    • GoPro 8 + MediaMod (or newer)
    • RaceStreaming Racing Cam 1080p
    • Or any other camera with a USB or HDMI output.

What is included in the data plan?

RaceStreaming.com sends data over the Internet using the built-in 4G/LTE modem. The RaceStreaming StreamKit includes a mobile data plan, with 24 hours of live streaming per month. Should you need more, we are able to offer higher tiers as well. Our data plan is valid in all of EEA (EU+UK), the USA, and Canada. If you plan to use RaceStreaming outside of these areas, you can swap the SIM card to use any local provider. Please contact us, if you have any questions.

What is needed at the race track?

RaceStreaming.com transmits data to the Internet using the built-in 4G/LTE modem. Most tracks offers good cellular coverage, which is essential for optimal upstream video performance. The RaceStreaming StreamKit, when used with the included data plan, will always use the best possible network available in the area.

From the pit box or any other location, you can receive and view the live stream over the Internet using your mobile, tablet, or desktop device. We recommend you set up monitors to allow your pit crew or guests to follow the live stream.

Can I connect multiple viewers at the same time?

Yes – you can simultaneously connect multiple viewers at the same time or connect your live stream directly to YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, Facebook Live, or other RTMP or HLS/SRT streaming services and allow unlimited viewers.

Do I need a camera?

Yes – You may already have a built-in VBOX or AIM camera system that provides video output. If not, there are many different action cameras available today. You may already be the lucky owner of a camera that can provide video and audio via USB or HDMI. Plug your existing action camera into the RaceStreaming.com hardware using a USB and/or HDMI cable. RaceStreaming also offers a Racing Cam solution.

Can I connect multiple cameras?

Yes. You can connect one or two cameras to the RaceStreaming StreamKit at once. One camera via the HDMI input port and/or two cameras via the USB-A ports. When two cameras are connected, the StreamKit will automatically enable PiP-mode (Picture-in-picture). Using two cameras, you will be able to stream both a forward- and rear-facing camera or a forward- and driver-facing camera.

If you need more cameras, you can simply purchase multiple StreamKits.

Which camera is the best?

If not using VBOX HD2 or AIM, we offer an affordable Racing Cam. In addition, we have tested various action cameras available. Currently, the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, will automatically switch into webcam-mode, and provides excellent video quality for the price. Furthermore, you can easily add ND-filters (sunglasses), which will enhance the visual appearance of the live video stream.

Do I need a SIM card?

No. The RaceStreaming StreamKit is provided including SIM card and an active data plan for use in all of EEA (EU + UK), the USA, and Canada. If you plan to use RaceStreaming within other geographical area you can easily swap to a local SIM card.

Antennas and streaming quality?

The RaceStreaming.com StreamKit transfers high-quality low-latency video via the 4G/LTE network. The StreamKit includes both internal and external antenna kit. You can mount the external antenna on your car to improve the mobile connectivity. The RaceStreaming StreamKit also includes a GPS antenna, used for providing movement data, speed (km/h or mph).

Can I get audio from the car within the stream?

Yes – If your camera has or is connected to a microphone and provides the audio track through the HDMI or USB connection, your stream will also include onboard audio from within your race car. When using multiple cameras, only the first connected camera will provide the audio track, as the second camera is displayed via PiP mode (Picture-in-Picture). You can connect a USB microphone directly to the StreamKit if you want a different audio source. The RaceStreaming Racing Cam is provided including a USB-A microphone, this microphone can be used in combination with any other camera to collect the audio from inside the race car.

What is the expected latency of the live stream?

Depending on your cellular coverage, the desired video quality, and the player used, you will be able to follow the live stream from any Internet-connected device with a latency from below 1 second to a maximum of 3 seconds. Professional SRT streams from the RaceStreaming StreamKit is typically delivering 500 to 700 ms latency.

Connecting the RaceStreaming.com live stream to a YouTube stream will allow viewers to follow the stream with approximately a 3 to 5-second delay due to YouTube’s way of processing live streams.

Can I use the stream for professional broadcasting?

If you have a professional broadcasting setup, you can connect to the in-car streams and use them live within your production. The RaceStreaming platform provides, by default, external RTMP or SRT streams. If you have a professional setup, we recommend using OBS Studio (Free software) or vMix. Under optimal configuration (single cast end-points), broadcasters can receive the live RaceStreaming feed with minimal latency down to 500ms, depending on your technical setup. Does RaceStreaming work with OBS Studio?

Yes, the live stream from RaceStreaming.com can be collected as a media source within OBS Studio for semi-professional broadcasting production. In OBS Studio, you can also overlay data from websites to show race position, place on-track ranking information, etc. Se example here

Does RaceStreaming work with vMix?

Yes, the live stream from RaceStreaming.com can be used as an SRT input source within vMix for professional broadcasting production. Learn how to configure vMix here.

What streaming quality can I expect?

RaceStreaming.com transfers 1080p or 4K from 25 fps to 60 fps. You have the option to lower or increase the quality and manually add additional latency for a better stable video connection, if needed.

What is a RaceStreaming Race Hub?

RaceStreaming offers Race Hubs (Data Centers) in (1) Europe, (2) Southeast Asia, (3) Middle East and (4) America. If you race in Europe, we recommend using the Europe Race Hub to ensure ultra low latency. If you race in e.g. Sepang Malysia, we recommend moving your StreamKit to the Southeast Asia Race Hub. Race Hubs is offered to ensure our high quality and low latency is comparable world-wide for professional usage. If you have the Race Hub feature available, you can easily move your RaceStreaming StreamKit from the [Settings] tap within the RaceStreaming App.
